National Service Scheme

Empowering the student community to face life with dignity and confidence

National Service Scheme

National Service Scheme, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Govt. of India was introduced in the Directorate of Vocational Higher Secondary Education during 1994-95. Our NSS Unit was formed in 1995 under the stewardship of Mr. Saidalavi K, Department of Biology as the first Programme Officer.

National Service Scheme (NSS) is a student centered programme, complementary to education – a noble experiment in academic extension. It inculcates the spirit of voluntary work among students and teachers through sustained community interaction. It brings our academic institutions closer to the society and acts as a link between the campus and community, the school and village, knowledge and action.  The overall aim of NSS is the Personality Development of student volunteers through community service. It gives an extension dimension to Higher Education system and orients the student youth to community service. The activities organized under NSS on and off the campus are delivered through regular activities covering not less than 240 hours and a seven-day residential camp.

The NSS unit of the School has attracted social recognition and bagged a nice bunch of honours. The most sterling achievement is the rare honour of winning the Best NSS Unit and the Best Programme Officer awards of the Golden Jubilee year of NSS-2020 through Mr. Abdul Majeed MT, Department of English as the Programme Officer.

It was in 2007 that Rahmaniya NSS unit won the prestigious awards for the first time – The Best NSS Unit in Kerala and Mr. Ashik KP, our present Principal, became the Best Programme Officer of the State.

The feat was repeated in 2012 when our unit won the awards for the Best NSS Unit under Mr. Yoonus CP, Department of Automobile Technology who was adjudged as the State’s Best Programme Officer.

Mr. Faisal P, Department of ECT, is the torchbearer of the NSS Unit since July- 2020.
